WHAT:
San Antonio College Upward Bound Sumobot competition.
Students will showcase their robotic designs in an exciting,
no holds barred, Sumobot tournament, where autonomous robots try to
push or flip each other out of a circular ring.
The purpose of the robotic competitions is to increase the
student interest and motivation to pursue engineering and other science
careers. This program shows students that science and engineering is
fun.

WHO:
Upward Bound Math-Science students. All 41 are from Edison High
School, mostly emerging 11th and 12th graders. Students will compete in
groups of three.

ADD’L DETAILS:
Upward Bound Math-Science (UBMS) is a federally-funded program
through the U.S. Department of Education to create opportunities for
introduce high school to college.
The six-week summer program is free for participants who also earn a stipend.
The purpose of the robotic competition is to increase the students
interest and motivation to pursue engineering or other science-related
careers. This is done by allowing them to use their creativity,
imagination, and technical and physical skills to design, build, and
program a machine (robot) that can successfully perform the required
tasks.
