Add to Calendar
HIgh school juniors and seniors who want to succeed in college can get a head start at the Alamo Colleges’ 2014 Young Leaders Conference. This year the annual event, to be held on Saturday, February 22, 2014, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the McAllister Fine Arts Center Auditorium at San Antonio College, focuses on the importance of beginning with a goal in mind—having a vision, a voice and a strategy as students make the transition to college.
To kick off the conference, keynote speaker Jerome Love, former John Jay High School student, successful entrepreneur and author of "Get Up, Get Out and Get Something," will offer his unique perspective on leadership and success. The goals for the conference are simple but bold: to provide a FREE one-day event for high school juniors, seniors and their parents to engage in conversations and activities and promote greater participation in student leadership development.
Ten scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded at the conference to students planning to attend one of the Alamo Colleges. There also will be door prizes and the High School Spirit Award (for the school with the highest participation - reigning champ is McCollum High School). College representatives and staff in the Mobile GO Center will be on hand to share information on preparing, applying and paying for college.
