Welcome to the Alamo Colleges College Credit for Heroes Initiative website. Alamo Colleges is a member of a statewide College Credit for Heroes Initiative (CCHI) consortium comprising seven community colleges and the Medical Education and Training Campus at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. Thanks to seed funding provided by the Texas Workforce Commission, the CCHI consortium is actively engaged in the development of educational models. These include innovative approaches for awarding college credit by evaluating military allied healthcare training and experience, including testing and prior learning assessments, with the goal of implementing a statewide system for other colleges and training providers.
Since July 2011, the Alamo Colleges College Credit for Heroes Initiative has focused on enhancing the opportunities for military service members and veterans who have received allied health education and training while serving in the U.S. military. Central to this effort is work directed towards the maximization of transfer credits to accelerate the attainment of Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degrees in Health Information Technology with Three Tracks and Nursing.
“While we can never fully thank veterans for their service to our nation, I am proud of the steps we have taken to help veterans and military service members transition to civilian life by applying their skills and experience to help them graduate more quickly and save money on tuition.” - Rick Perry, Texas Governor
