Providing Quality Child Care Services

If you need reliable child care services accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children while attending school, Ray Ellison Family Center is the place. We provide quality child care services with a trained and experienced staff.

About the Ray Ellison Family Center (REFC)

Palo Alto College is not only a college, but a crossroads where the community can come together. Education and parenting can be difficult, which is why the college features the Ray Ellison Family Center, a home away from home developmental care services center for children of the community.

The center at PAC is licensed to provide care to 66 children daily between the ages of 21 months and 4 years old, including those children who turn 5 after September 1st. We are located on the Palo Alto College campus.

The Ray Ellison Charitable Trust Fund, through the San Antonio Area Foundation, provided a $200,000 grant for the initial construction of the center. The center opened its doors on October 3, 2001, as a way to unite the surrounding Palo Alto community to higher education in San Antonio’s South Side. Without the stress of child care, students have found focus in their studies as well as residents in their labor.

The purpose of the Ray Ellison Family Center is to provide a high quality early childhood program that supports the growth, development, and education of children and their families while creating a model of quality early childhood education and a center for training early childhood professionals within the broader San Antonio Community.

The Ray Ellison Family Center accepts all children of the South San district and of PAC students at discounted rates with quality services.

We welcome you and your family to the Ray Ellison Family Center and look forward to a mutually satisfying teacher-parent relationship. We feel that we can work best together to create a welcoming environment for all children if we understand and share the same guidelines and expectations.

Priority for enrollment is given to Palo Alto College students, but we are open to the community as space permits. Families on CCDS are welcome.

Head Start

The Ray Ellison Family Center also offers Head Start, a child development services program that is open to the Palo Alto College community.

Services include complimentary health, dental and hearing screenings as well as materials and meal service for children. The REFC counts with state and national accreditation as well as an educated staff with most instructors possessing a BA. Students of the REFC graduate ready to begin their first day in Kindergarten.

Requirements include that parents have a child that turned age 4 prior to September 1, 2013; parents must attend PAC or reside in the South San district; and parents must meet financial eligibility requirements. Inquire today and see if your child may qualify for Head Start enrollment.

Calendar

The Ray Ellison Family Center follows the Calendar of Palo Alto College. In addition, the Ray Ellison Family Center schedules certain days as closed for staff development. Please refer to your handout for a complete listing of holidays and closures; a copy is posted in the Lobby for your reference. Parents will be notified well in advance of closures.
