Step 1 - Get Advice from a College Advisor
Meet with a college advisor to discuss you personal career goals and program of study interest. Our experienced advisors will help you to determine whether you have prior learning experiences that qualify for the PLA portfolio process, as well as determine whether this is the right option for you. If you are not currently enrolled in one of the Alamo Colleges, you will need to complete the ApplyTexas application for admission.
Step 2 - Enroll in the Portfolio Development Course
Your College Advisor and you will determine if the PLA portfolio program is right for you. If so, you will be enrolled in the selected portfolio course, PLA 1001 or PLA 1002. Prior to your class start date, you will receive an e-mail that provides you with access to the Learning Counts One Stop Online PLA Portal. In addition to access to your Portfolio Development Course, you will be able to learn more about how the program can benefit you using the Learning Counts College Credit Predictor and the Individualized Expert Assessment tools.
Step 3 - Build your Portfolio for Credit Consideration
Using what you’ve learned in PLA 1001 or PLA 1002, you will create an online portfolio that showcases your knowledge and prior learning experience. Our professional program of study leads will help you select courses that are equivalent to what you already know by guiding you through the syllabi for courses in your desired program of study. Once you’ve completed your online portfolio, a member of the Learning Counts expert faculty will assess your portfolio and recommend the college credit to be awarded. You can earn up to 6 credit hours toward your Certificate Program or 12 credit hours toward your associate of applied science degree for each subject area portfolio you submit.
