WE CAN HELP WRITERS:

The College Writing Center offers free services to students, faculty, staff, and community members. Our professional tutors are here to help you with writing from any discipline. Whether you need assistance with understanding an assignment, generating ideas, creating a thesis, or organizing your paper, our tutors can help you improve your writing skills.

We promote student learning and thinking by helping writers focus on issues of meaning and by involving them in reflection on their own work. By building collaborative peer relations with student writers and modeling appropriate academic behavior, we help students build the confidence, articulate the ideas, acquire the strategies, and learn the skills to engage effectively in their writing processes.

Online Tutoring From the Writing Center

(Note: We are in the process of transitioning our online tutoring to a new interface.)

What do we offer?
The Writing Center offers free tutoring assistance to SAC students, staff, and faculty. We offer teh same quality tutoring online as we do face-to-face. The ONLY difference for a tutoring session online is the delivery method. You can expect the same excellent level of attention from our trained tutors.

How do you set and online tutoring appointment?
You set an appointment the same way you would for a face-to-face tutoring session. Either call the Writing Center at 486-1433 or come in person to GH203 to set your appointment time. Once we make your appointment, we send you an email message with

  1. General information on doing an online tutoring session, including password access to our conferencing program.
  2. An attachment with a guide for logging in to the conferencing program

This information provides guidance on how to log in and get to where we can talk about your paper and see it together.

How does the online tutoring session work?
We are using the program Elluminate for our online tutoring. Writers and tutors can look at a paper together, talk about it, and even view web resources on writing together. Sessions are 45 minutes long, just like in face-to-face sessions.
