What is the Regional Fire Academy?

The San Antonio College Regional Fire Academy is one of many components in the First Responders Academy Campus. It is an accredited fire academy where you, the cadet, will earn the certification needed to become an entry level firefighter in the state of Texas. 

What will I learn?

As a San Antonio College Regional Fire Academy Cadet, you will learn multiple disciplines needed to achieve basic certification as a firefighter.  Some of the disciplines include but are not limited to; History of Firefighting, Technical Rescue, Vehicle Extrication, Hazardous Materials, Incident Management System, Communications, Public Education, etc. just to name a few. Aside from these academic disciplines, you will learn about Honor, Integrity, Courage, and Pride through Teamwork and Leadership. You will learn multiple techniques, tactics, and strategies from some of the best Fire Instructors.

What can I do with this course of study?

The Regional Fire Academy is only one component of the Protective Services Department at San Antonio College. Not only will you achieve certification as a firefighter, but you will also graduate the Fire Academy with 27 college credit hours and a Level I Certificate. Receiving a Level I Certificate in this course of study will open many opportunities in this career field. Earning these college credit hours will make you a well-rounded firefighter, make you more marketable in your career search, and it will enhance your advancement/promotion opportunities.

What's special about program?

Our program is special because it is a structured and regimented traditional fire academy that instills in our cadets the motto of "Brotherhood Above All Else".  The Fire Academy exceeds the minimum required hours set forth by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection in an effort to turn out a Firefighter that exceeds minimal standards, is more knowledgeable and well-rounded, and will carry out our name as a SACRFA graduate with pride.Our instructors are diverse and bring different tactics, strategies, and lessons learned from some of the best Fire Departments in the Country. Preparing our graduates for a successful career in Fire Protection is what we do.
