International students are required to maintain health insurance during their stay in the United States. Coverage must comply with all applicable requirements of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). As a convenience, all international students are automatically enrolled in Plan III with Academic Health Plans and are billed accordingly. If you currently have medical insurance coverage, you may petition for a waiver from automatic coverage. Please contact international student services for more information concerning health insurance. Basic coverage benefits and student premium rates are listed below. Premium rates for dependents are in addition to the rates listed and are available directly through Academic Health Plans. All rates are for academic year 2012-2013. Your international advisor can assist you with questions concerning health insurance.

  • Plan III – Injury and Sickness Insurance for International Student Automatic F-1 student enrollment
  • Optional F-2 dependent coverage available, payable by student
  • $100,000 policy aggregate maximum per insured person, per policy year
  • $250 sickness deductible per insured person , per policy year (does not apply to preventive services)
  • $1,000 injury deductible per insured person , per policy year
  • Academic Emergency Services available

Coverage includes the accident insurance which provides students with additional coverage for injuries with a $10.00 co-pay as well as accidental death & disbursement coverage. Plan III also offers $100,000 in benefits annually. There is a $250.00 deductible for treatment for sickness. A20 percent co-pay will be required on all services. There is no prescription benefit, but a discount card will be provided. Specific preventive services are covered at 100 percent under the PPACA.
