 Welcome to the Northeast Lakeview College Scholarship Office 

The 2014 Northeast Lakeview College/Alamo Colleges Foundation scholarship application will be available from January 13th, 2014 through March 31st, 2014. This application is for ALL Northeast Lakeview College scholarships and will be used to award scholarships for the Fall 2014 and Spring 2015 semesters.

General Eligibility Requirements

Recipients of Northeast Lakeview Colleges/Alamo Colleges Foundation scholarships are required to:

  • Be enrolled full time or part time, depending on scholarship criteria. (12+ hours is full time).
  • Be pursuing an Associate Degree, Certificate of Completion, or transfer program at the Alamo Colleges.
  • Have and maintain a satisfactory grade point average (GPA): 2.00 – 4.00
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress as required by Student Financial Services. Please refer to: http://www.alamo.edu/district/schships/policies.aspx 
  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for need-based consideration: www.fafsa.ed.gov 
  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.

The online application for academic year 2014-2015 will be available January 13, 2014.

Only one application will be considered per academic year.

The following is the process for applying for and accepting a Northeast Lakeview College scholarship.

  • March 31  Deadline for submitting a scholarship application for AY 2014-2016
  • May 1   Scholarship applications judged
  • June 1  Scholarship awardees notified
  • July 1   Deadline for awardees to accept scholarship and submit required documents

Application Tips

 

The Application

Answer all of the questions. If any do not apply, indicate so by filling in N/A.
Complete the application yourself and have a friend review it for you.
Proofread and review your application when you finish.
Print a copy of the application for your records.
Provide the required documents. Follow up with schools that you have requested to forward your transcript.

The Essay Prompts

On the scholarship application, you are asked to respond to three essay prompts. Below are the prompts
  • Describe your background and life experiences to include any challenges or successes. Explain how these experiences prompted you to pursue a higher education.
  • Describe your educational career and life goals.
  • Explain your plan for achieving these goals.  Include your degree/major, why you selected it, and how this degree/major will help you achieve your goals.
  • Explain why you deserve to receive a scholarship.  How will receiving a scholarship help you achieve your goals?

Tips on Writing

  • Do not underestimate the importance of the essays. This is where the reviewers get to know you.
  • The word limit is 250 words—use ALL of the words available to you.
  • Think about your responses to the prompts.
  • Organize your thoughts and jot down an outline before you begin to write.
  • Write your responses to the essays in Word before beginning the application.
  • Ensure you are answering the questions being asked.
  • Answer in complete sentences and use proper grammar.
  • Elaborate, give details, and engage the reader.
  • Spend time editing and re-editing your draft.
  • Have friend or family member review your responses.
  • Consider using the services of the tutoring center on campus.
  • English instructors are also good resources.
  • When you are satisfied with your responses, complete the application and cut and paste your essay responses.
