1SG Gerald Dove and his unit,Charlie Company 2-227TH AVN REGT (also known as the Witchdoctors), were honored during NLC’s Fall 2012 Convocation on August 21. Gerald Dove is husband to Dr. Tangila Dove, vice president of college services at Northeast Lakeview College, and is the leader of the military unit who recently returned from serving a year in Afghanistan.
During the 2011-2012 academic year, NLC built a relationship with the unit by corresponding with them on a regular basis, including them on various College communications, and sponsoring several service projects for the unit that included a holiday collection drive, that collected 10 boxes of choice snack foods and games, and taping a holiday wish sent to the unit while serving in Afghanistan.
They were welcomed back and thanked for their service by NLC faculty and staff and received a College coin and a cap. A video was produced by the Public Relations department that documented the year-long relationship with the Witchdoctors and it was shown to the group during Convocation.
