La Prensa Foundation Inspirational Student of the Month Award

Julien Mahler
Major: Chemistry
GPA: 3.84
Northwest Vista College

Julien Mahler is the recipient of the October 2012 La Prensa Foundation Inspirational Student of the Month award and will receive $500 funded by La Prensa Foundation founded by Amelia and Tino Duran.

Julien’s exposure to different cultures and his parent’s ideals that hard work and a higher education can lead to a happy and successful lifestyle has prompted him to pursue a higher education for himself. His traveling and living abroad as a part of a military family has taught him that a higher education allows individuals to be more receptive to different cultures and ideas.
“Julien believes strongly in making a contribution to his community…leads by example and has a ‘can do’ spirit seemingly without boundaries or limits” said Lynne Dean, Director of Institutional Advancement in Community Development.

His goal in life and educational career are intertwined by the ambition to help others by becoming a pediatric neurologist. He plans on completing 2 more years of undergraduate school, 4 years of medical school, 1 year of internship in either internal medicine or surgery and at least 3 years of specialty training in an accredited neurology residency program.

Besides focusing on his educational goals, Julien has volunteered in a variety of different events and activities within Alamo Colleges and the City of San Antonio. Lynne Dean also said, “Countless times, NVC has called on Julien as our representative and he has stepped up to give speeches, participate in forums, interact with Baldrige examiners and more. Because of his leadership at NVC, the Alamo Colleges Foundation has also called on him to speak at District and Foundation activities including several employee giving campaign events”

Julien Mahler truly exemplifies the kind of student Northwest Vista College is proud to honor with the Alamo Colleges Student of the Month.

Please help us in congratulating Julien Mahler
as the Alamo Colleges – La Prensa Foundation Inspirational Student of the Month Award for October 2012
