Department of Energy Visits NLC

The Alamo Colleges, including Northeast Lakeview College (NLC), participated in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. CPS Energy received funds from the US Department of Energy as part of the Commercial Better Buildings Program to help facilities identify energy efficiency measures to reduce energy consumption and costs, including strategies for capital investments and retrofits and low-cost changes in operating strategies. Part of the program includes energy audits conducted on all its facilities. The ARRA funds paid for 80% of the cost of the energy audit and Alamo Colleges paid for the remaining 20% of the cost.

Individuals from the US Department of Energy, CPS Energy, and Alamo Colleges and Northeast Lakeview College met at the College for a discussion of the energy conservation measures implemented at NLC and the value and importance of the energy audits. The group toured the Physical Plant yard and inspected the cooling towers and equipment yard.

Northeast Lakeview College Cumulative Savings were $262, 275 from March 2011 through December 2012.
