May 2013 Student of the Month

John Doyle is the recipient of the May 2013 La Prensa Foundation Student of the Month Scholarship and received an award of $500 from the La Prensa Foundation founded by Millie and Tino Duran.

Mr. John Doyle began at Northeast Lakeview College in Fall 2012. A homeschooled student, he chose to take three years off before beginning his college career. With 33 credit hours, Mr. Doyle is half-way towards his goal of receiving his associate of science with a concentration in biology.

Active at Northeast Lakeview College, Doyle is president of the Science Club and a volunteer tutor in Science, Calculus, Biology, and Chemistry. He is also active in his community and has accumulated more than 300 hours of volunteer service, most of which are towards programs that support youth and his church community. He does all this while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. Doyle says his experiences at Northeast Lakeview College have been “fantastic” and “I had no idea that a community college could provide such a rewarding experience.”

His nominator praises John’s drive and dedication and she says he has “shown himself to be an able student, an enthusiastic learner, and very dedicated to his peers.”

Mr. John Doyle plans to complete his Associate of Science in Spring 2014 and hopes to transfer to Rice University to pursue a double major in Neurobiology and Physics. His long-term goal is to attend medical school and ultimately practice neurology.
