Dr. Garza named VP of Student Success

Dr. Robert Garza was named as Palo Alto College’s newest Vice President of Student Success, effective Aug. 14.

Dr. Garza began with the Alamo Colleges 14 years ago as an Off-Site Coordinator and has served in a variety of positions within the organization, including Director of Distance & Extended Education, Assistant to the President (coordinating CIP), Dean of Community Development, Dean of Student Success, and most recently Interim Vice President of Student Success since June 2012.

Dr. Garza has played a key role in advancing institutional efforts in academic advising, new student orientation, dual credit, and co-coordinated the Foundations of Excellence self-study process on both the first year and transfer focus, as well as served as a reviewer for the SAC's Commission on Colleges.

Dr. Garza has a Ph. D in Education Administration from the University of Texas at Austin, a Master's Degree in Public Administration from the University of Texas at San Antonio, and a Bachelor's Degree in Agricultural Leadership from Texas A&M College Station.

Dr. Garza is originally from Brownsville, Texas, and has resided in San Antonio since 1996. Dr. Robert Garza is married to Dr. Esther Garza, an Assistant Professor in Bilingual Education at Texas A&M University - San Antonio. They have two children, Victoria and Robert III.
