Dr. Jacobs named Dean of Arts & Sciences

Dr. Mary-Ellen Jacobs, who joined the Alamo Colleges in 1997, was named Dean of Arts & Sciences on Tuesday, Oct. 22. Dr. Jacobs has been filling the position as Interim Dean of Art & Sciences since February 2013 when former dean Elizabeth Tanner was promoted to Vice President of Academic Success.

Dr. Jacobs has served as Chair of the English, Communications, Foreign Languages, ESOL & Reading Department several times and was promoted to Professor of English in 2009. She also co-chaired, with Dr. Mike Flores, the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) for the Southern Association of Colleges & Schools reaccreditation process in 2012. The QEP is the Problem-Based Learning initiative where faculty members are encouraged to involve students in discussion and real-life experiences to supplement classroom learning.

Congratulations Dr. Jacobs!
