SAC Leaders Receive ALAS Awards

On Friday, December 6, 2013, San Antonio College leaders received an award from the Alamo Colleges Leadership Academy for Success (ALAS). The December ALAS meeting is the annual date at which leader awards are distributed. During this special presentation, all three top leaders at SAC were honored in a brief presentation. The moment was made even more special because it is not typical for all of a college's top leaders to be honored in the same year.

President Robert Zeigler, Ph.D. (pictured on right) is the only Alamo Colleges employee to have been awarded the "Trusted Leader" honor twice. After accepting the award, Zeigler addressed the ALAS group briefly explaining his leadership philosophy.

"One thing I know is that I have enough sense to have people around me who know how to do their job, and then I have to get out of their way and let them do it," Zeigler said.

Dr. Robert Vela (pictured left) was recognized for his leadership as well. As the vice president of student and academic success, Vela leads many teams of faculty and staff. In his remarks, he spoke about the importance of modeling leadership in all aspects of his life, from family to work to self.

The final award of the morning was given to Mr. David Mrizek, Vice President for College Services. The award bestowed upon him was for his mentorship with ALAS participants. Always eager to share his wisdom and knowledge, Mrizek was selected for this award from his current and previous ALAS mentees. Mrizek expressed his sincere gratitude and told the ALAS group he was humbled and honored to be receiving this award.

The Alamo Colleges Leadership Academy for Success is a leadership program made up of leaders from around the Alamo Colleges district.
