Follins Named President at Northeast Lakeview College

Dr. Craig T. Follins will succeed Dr. Eric Reno as the next president of Northeast Lakeview College.  Follins was one of four finalists selected earlier this fall.  Each of the four finalists participated in committee interviews and open public forums.  Follins was approved by the Alamo Colleges Board of Trustees at their December 17 meeting.

Dr. Craig Follins is currently the president of Olive-Harvey College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago. Additionally, he has held leadership positions in workforce and economic development at Cuyahoga Community College (Cleveland, Ohio), Victoria College (Texas), and Houston Community College. Before beginning a career in education, Dr. Follins worked for several years with the United States Postal Service.

Dr. Follins earned his Ph.D. in Educational Administration from the University of Texas at Austin. His undergraduate degree is in Sociology.

“We look forward to the new opportunities that Dr. Craig Follins will bring to Northeast Lakeview College,” says Sabrina Hammel, Northeast Lakeview College faculty senate president.  “His leadership experience at several other community college systems allows him to relate to our students and their challenges and understand how the community college can help them accomplish their educational goals.”

Dr. Reno is scheduled to retire in January 2014 and according to Board of Trustees minutes, Dr. Follins’ scheduled start date is in March of 2014.  Dr. Thomas Cleary whose current position at the Alamo Colleges is vice chancellor for planning, performance and information systems will serve as interim president at Northeast Lakeview College until Dr. Follins arrives.
