The Core Ensemble of Ebony Embers

A chamber music theatre work conceived and performed by

The Core Ensemble (cello, piano & percussion)

Northwest Vista welcomes The Core Ensemble on Feb. 10 as they present "Of Ebony Embers," which is a music theatre work for a solo actor and The Core Ensemble. It explores the life and times of African Americans who helped shape the Harlem Renaissance.

The Core Ensemble performs music by composers ranging from jazz greats Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morron, Billy Strayhorn and Thelonious Monk. The Boston Globe hailed The Core as "often formidable, always intelligent, ultimately compelling."

On Feb. 10:

- Workshop on "Re-imagining the Chamber Ensemble for the 21st Century" at 12:30 pm in the Palmetto Rehearsal Hall, room 152.

- Performance "Of Ebony Embers: Vignettes of the Harlem Renaissance" at 3:30 pm in the Palmetto Recital Hall, room 107.
