March 2014 - Student of the Month Award

Christopher Sanchez
GPA: 3.50
Northwest Vista College

Christopher Sanchez is the March 2014 La Prensa Foundation Inspirational Student of the Month. Christopher is an Engineering major with a 3.50 GPA at Northwest Vista College. He will graduate in May and plans on attending the University of Texas at Austin and major in Mechanical Engineering.

In addition to his academic achievements, Christopher has served as an officer for both Phi Theta Kappa and the National Honor Society of Leadership and Success. Mr. Sanchez has also served our students as a peer mentor, student ambassador, and member of Student Activity Fee committee. He has also completed the Learning to Lead certificate program.

As a mentor, Christopher has assisted first-time college students with their transition into higher education. He knows first-hand the value of starting your education off right and wants to share his own story with other NVC students. He has personally mentored over 70 NVC students. Both instructors and students alike have praised him for the genuine support and knowledge he has provided. As a student ambassador, Christopher has completed more than 80 hours of service at campus events, tours, and new student orientations.

Christopher is a native of San Antonio and graduated from Sandra Day O’Connor High School in 2008. In addition to his volunteer commitments, Christopher works two part time jobs to pay for his schooling. He plans on using his Mechanical Engineering degree to join his father in managing the family’s air conditioning business and eventually open his own clean energy business.

Please help us in congratulating Christopher Sanchez
as the Alamo Colleges – La Prensa Foundation Inspirational Student of the Month Award for March 2014.
