Candidates for the Dean of Student Success

The search for the Dean of Student Success position is underway. The committee has selected three final candidates to proceed to a second round of interviewing. At that time, the candidates will meet with the College Executive Team and will have an opportunity to meet with the greater college community during an Open Forum.  

The names of the candidates, along with a short bio and the Open Forum information that is currently available, are listed below. Updates to the Open Forum Schedule and the links to watch the interview tapings will be posted here as they become available. Return to this webpage for updates.  

Candidates :  

Dr. Lisa Alcorta   

Open Forum was held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, in the Visual Arts Center, Room 120.   

Dr. Alcorta has been employed at the Alamo Colleges since late 2010. Currently, she currently serves as the Director of Developmental Education under the Vice Chancellor of Academic Success. Her experience within the education field includes: serving as a project coordinator at the University of Texas and working as a Counselor (then later a Director of Student Support Services) at Victoria College. Her background also includes being a school social worker in Judson and Seguin ISDs.

Jerry Haynes  

Open Forum was held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10th in the Faculty Lounge in the Loftin Student Center.   

Mr. Jerry Haynes has varied experience in the realm of student services. Most recently, he has served as the Vice President for Student Development at Pima Community College, a position which he held for more than eight years. He also has served as the Dean of Student Services at South Puget Sound Community College and as Associate Dean of Enrollment Services at Edmonds Community College.

 Dr. Rito Silva   

Open Forum was held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Monday, June 16, in the Visual Arts Center, Room 120.    

Since 2010, Dr. Silva has served as the Dean of Student Services at Lone Star College in Cypress, Texas. In his role, he provides administrative oversight to a wide range of student services including: Student Outreach and Retention, Student Life, and Academic Advising. Previously, he worked at Coastal Bend College for many years. Beginning as a counselor, he served in various capacities at Coastal Bend eventually landing as Director of the Alice Campus.
