GED-to-College Class Accepting New Students

The San Antonio College Empowerment Center is currently accepting new students for its Fall 2014 GED-to-College class. The GED-to-College class is tailored for individuals who want to enroll at SAC after earning their GED.  

Sponsored by the SAC Services for Women and Non-Traditional Students, in conjunction with San Antonio Independent School District, the GED-to-College class has an outstanding success rate. Among the students who have taken the class previously, 86 percent have passed the GED within the session and 84 percent have enrolled in college the following semester. The class also offers comprehensive support services and assistance to students throughout the college enrollment process. 

The class will be Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. beginning August 25 th and continuing through December 12 th . Class will take place at the SAC Empowerment Center. 

In order to be eligible, individuals must be at least 18 years of age with low-to-moderate income level. Individuals must be in good financial aid standing and must not owe money to any of the Alamo Colleges. To participate, individuals must also be available to attend the entire class session and must meet all pre-testing requirements. Pre-testing requirements include completing all testing and screening in order to receive a recommendation for the class, based on scores. 

To be considered for enrollment, students must take a GED practice test at the Empowerment Center. Upcoming testing sessions are Monday, July 21 st at 8 a.m. and Monday, July 28 th at 8 a.m. Following the practice test, students will be given an appointment to attend an information session and screening.
