HOW DO I PROVE I AM EXEMPT FROM TSI?

A student can provide an official transcript from the high school where SAT/ACT/TAKS scores are recorded. If you previously attended another college/university and were exempt, provide those official transcripts showing your exemption.

Please note, a student who meets a TSI exemption status may still need to fulfill alternative placement requirements.

IF I FAIL A PORTION OF THE TEST, DO I HAVE TO TAKE THE ENTIRE TEST AGAIN?

No, you are not required to re-test. However, any placement scores that are more than 3 years old will expire and may not be used for course placement.

IS ACCUPLACER AN ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENT?

No. However, before registering for college level courses, all students must provide proof of meeting TSI requirements. All documents must be officialPlease see exemptions.

WHAT IF I DON'T TAKE THE TEST WITHIN THE PRESCRIBED TIME?

Students not taking the Accuplacer or approved TSI exam test when required will not be able to register at Northwest Vista College. The test information is used to determine appropriate placement into courses.

WHAT SCORE DO I NEED ON MY EXIT LEVEL TAKS TO BE EXEMPT FROM THE ACCUPLACER?

ELA 2200+

ESSAY 3+

MATH 2200+

(Please note, students scoring below 2300 on the Math TAKS will be required to take an alternative placement test in that section.  Please see the Testing Office for more information.)
