Beginning with the institution's first class day of Academic Year (fall) 2013, an institution of higher education shall use the TSI Assessment offered by the College Board as the only Board-approved assessment instrument under this title. Any previously-employed assessments (ACCUPLACER, Compass, THEA, Asset, Compass ESL, ACCUPLACER ESL) can no longer be used under this title for entering students who initially enroll in any course on or after the institution's first class day in fall 2013.

Please Note:  The TSI Assessment is only available to student enrolling with the Alamo Colleges.  The test can not be administered to non-Alamo College students.

WHAT IS THE TSI ASSESSMENT?

The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) Assessment is designed to help determine if you are ready for college-level courses in English, Reading, and Math. This assessment will also help determine what type of course or intervention will best meet your needs to help you become better prepared for college-level courses. If you have not been determined to be “exempt”, you are required to take the TSI Assessment.

The TSI Assessment is an adaptive computerized test that will cover:

  • Mathematics – 20 multiple choice questions, non-timed
  • Reading – 24 multiple choice questions, non-timed
  • Writing – 20 multiple choice questions, non-timed
  • You may be asked to write an essay containing 350 – 500 on a topic randomly selected, non-timed

Important: Based on scores in Math, Reading and Writing sections, you may be required to complete more questions than listed above.

For more detailed information what each section of the test contains, please review the TSI Assessment Informative Brochure.
