Alumni Story: Richard Canfield
“My associate’s degree has been a stepping stone to further my education in a dynamic world.”
Richard Canfield graduated from Northwest Vista College in 2009, with an associate’s degree in Digital Media. He now has an active role in the local creative community as media director for the San Antonio Film Festival (SAFILM), a nonprofit organization focused on bringing films and film resources to the city. He credits his degree from NVC for providing the credibility needed to acquire professional positions and continue filmmaking.
Richard is currently enrolled in courses through the New School of Public Engagement in New York City. He is also an active screenwriter, artist, videographer and editor who has worked on a wide range of music videos and films. Richard says NVC will always be a part of him; and adds that there’s always something to learn and create on campus.
“It’s truly an environment where you can discover your inner passions and engage in new ideas,” he said. “NVC is something you can be a part of and keep with you afterwards.”
His advice for current students is to take advantage of the state-of-the-art technology and creative arts programs at NVC, which he considers some of the best San Antonio has to offer.
“There are plenty of resources to discover your interests, this is the time to explore and experiment with your career desires,” he says.
