Jimmie Bruce
Jimmie Bruce is the Vice President of Academics at Northwest Vista College. In his 18 years of experience in higher education he has served in both the academic and student affairs areas. Prior to serving as Vice President he led the Student Success area as Dean for three and one-half years. He came to Texas from Elizabethtown Community College in Kentucky, where he was a faculty member and administrator for eleven years. He holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi.
His philosophy is that the student is the most important person at the college and that every student matters. His primary goals include the provision of the quality of education for students; the commitment to a supportive community inclusive of all institutional constituencies; and leadership by example in a way that is based on caring, integrity, and collaboration.
His professional activities include membership in the ACCD Continuity Committee; membership in the Continuous Quality Improvement Network, where he serves as Pacesetter Examiner; participation in the Texas Association of Community Colleges Legislative Meetings; membership in the National Alliance of Community and Technical Colleges, National Association of Academic Advising, and National Council of Instructional Administrator. His awards and honors include Elizabethtown Community College Great Teacher Nominee, Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers, and NISOD Excellence Award recipient.
