Welcome to Northwest Vista College's Humanities Program

"In its broadest sense...the humanistic tradition refers to humankind's cultural legacy--the sum total of the significant ideas and achievements handed down from generation to generation."
--Gloria Firero, The Humanistic Tradition

Humanities classes at Northwest Vista College give you the opportunity to explore the creative expression of the world's cultures. You may study religions like Buddhism and Islam, or learn about Hispanic culture through literature, art, music, and dance. You will be encouraged to see the world as people from other countries or traditions see it, to understand their perspective, and to see your own tradition from a different point of view.

All of our courses are interdisciplinary and may incorporate literature, philosophy, art, architecture, drama, dance, music, and film. Many of our courses look at themes such as "family" or "individuality" through the collective lens of at least some these disciplines. Our faculty include historians, philosophers, artists, writers, and thespians.
