PAC HSI-STEM CAARE Project

This project meets the objectives of the Department of Education’s STEM program in that it will enable talented, financially in need Hispanic students to secure a first-rate education and receive the support and preparation they need to transfer and graduate with degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.  

The grant provides a distinctive setting for innovative approaches in Coaching, Active-learning, Advising, Research and Endowment

Grant funds are applied toward a systematic approach of institutionalization that meet the College’s Strategic Plan. With the Vision of Alamo Colleges to be the best in the nation in Student Success and Performance Excellence, CAARE meets the our Core Values at PAC: Students First, Respect for All, Community-engaged, Collaboration, Can Do Spirit, and Data-informed.

Key Overall Project Goals

Faculty Development  Goal I - To significantly increase the academic success of Hispanic and low-income students through professional development of STEM faculty.
Student Success  Goal II.I - To significantly increase the transfer and degree attainment of Hispanic and low-income students through the creation of the IACAPI Program that will provide intrusive advising to STEM, Undeclared Majors, & Liberal Arts Majors to pursue STEM careers and degree pathways.
Goal II.II - To significantly increase the academic success of Hispanic and low-income students through coaching services for students at risk of failing or dropping out of STEM courses.
Goal II.III - To significantly increase the number of student enrolled in STEM majors by creating a Summer Institute to interest incoming freshmen in STEM fields. 
Academic Enrichment  Goal III - To significantly increase the academic success of Hispanic and low-income students through expansion of the Science Exploration Lab Center to create new educational opportunities.
Fiscal Support   Goal IV - By 2016 Palo Alto College will have significantly increased the amount of external funding available for student scholarships and program development.
