Dr. Stacey Johnson named President at Valencia College in Florida
Dr. Stacey R. Johnson, Vice President for Academic Affairs at Palo Alto College, has been named by Valencia College to serve as Campus President of East and Winter Park in Orlando, Fla., starting Aug. 6. Valencia College is nationally regarded and was awarded the Aspen Award, which recognized the institution as the best of the nation’s 1,200 community colleges.
Johnson’s resignation from the Alamo Colleges is effective June 15. She has served the Alamo Colleges since the early 1980’s and was one of the first 10 people hired to develop Palo Alto College on the Southside of San Antonio in Fall of 1985. Johnson served in posts for the college that included Director of Marketing; Assistant to the President; founding faculty member for the Communications Program; Department Chair of English, Communications & Foreign Languages; Dean of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences; and finally, to her current post as Vice President since 2008.
Johnson said, “I feel tremendous gratitude to Alamo Colleges, Palo Alto College (PAC) and to Dr. Ana “Cha” Guzmán for all of the support and the learning we have had together through these many years at PAC. It has been a privilege to serve the students and faculty at PAC.”
Johnson, an Olympic fencer who is well-known for her work with children and sports, founded the San Antonio Sports Dreams for Youth Program and has worked to support kids’ sports programming serving approximately 160,000 children annually. Johnson is in the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame, the San Antonio Woman’s Hall of Fame and in U.S. Fencing’s Hall of Fame, to name a few. Johnson has championed health and fitness throughout her tenure with San Antonio Sports where she serves as a member of the Executive Committee and serves on the Mayor’s Fitness Council.
