A Sweet Song of Success

These are exciting times for SAC student Clay Hollis.

A Texas country music singer and songwriter who has been playing professionally since high school, Hollis is seeing his career entering a new level of success. Last year, he traveled to Nashville, Tenn. to record his first record, a self-titled EP, and release his first single, "Look Who's Hurting Now." That single is at No. 14 on Texas Music Radio charts and is getting multiple hits on Spotify.

He is also playing to huge crowds, performing at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, and the annual Music Fest at Steamboat in Steamboat Springs, Colo.

In addition, he is receiving recognition from country music sources. He was invited to perform at the Future Faces Show at the Texas Regional Radio Music Awards and he received a nomination for the Keeping It County Artist/Band of the Year award from BigStar97.com, a Texas music station on the web.

And early this year, he signed on with a booking agency in Nashville. The ultimate goal of his management team is for Hollis to become a crossover artist in the Nashville market, mecca for a country music performer.

Yet even as his musical success accelerates, Hollis is diligently balancing his career with attending SAC and working part-time at KJ97, the local country music radio station.

Hollis is taking classes to earn an associate degree in SAC's Music Business program - courses that are helping him to pursue his goals as a performer.

The music business program is also preparing Hollis for other opportunities in the field. "Nothing is guaranteed in the music business," he said. "If, God forbid, I can no longer tour or if things don't go my way, I still have plans to be involved in the music business, whether it's in a management position or working for a record label or in radio."

For right now, his music is the priority. "I am always trying to constantly better myself and my music. Every day is a stepping stone and I want to keep on growing as an artist and entertainer," said Hollis.
