SAC OTS Department Wins National Honor

The Instructional Technology Council (ITC), an organization affiliated with the American Association of Community Colleges, has honored San Antonio College's Instructional Technology Services unit in the Office of Technology Services (OTS) with the 2018 Award for Outstanding Support for Faculty and Students. 

Each year, ITC issues a call for nominations to recognize the use of innovative technology support strategies in support of faculty and students. A judging panel composed of ITC board members and independent ITC members review all nominations and bestow awards to colleges that apply best practice standards.

"The award serves as a true testament to the outstanding work and commitment displayed by both our Instructional Technology and Technology Support Services teams," said Usha Venkat, director of Information Technology. "Furthermore, we have a great partnership with the Teaching with Technology committee and the collaborative effort was key to achieving this award. I am proud of the entire team and we look forward to continuing to provide outstanding support to our College employees and students."    

On average, the SAC OTS department offers more than 500 training workshops a year to support faculty and help train them on uses of technology and applications to enhance teaching and learning in the classroom.

The OTS department also offers technology workshops for students to help with classroom assignments and improve digital literacy through the Student Mega Lab. 

In addition, OTS strongly supports the Open Educational Resources initiative which promotes open source educational materials as a means to control textbook costs and related research fees.

The ITC award was presented at the 2018 eLearning Conference held in Tucson, Ariz.
