|What is the Murguia Learning Institute?
In Fall 2003, San Antonio College established a college-wide Professional Development Initiative, the Murguia Learning Institute (MLI). The MLI is offered to new full-time tenure track faculty and in the spring the focus is on full-time tenured faculty from department specific disciplines to receive instruction in teaching best practices. In Spring 2006, evening and weekend training began for adjunct and continuing education instructors.
The MLI also provides leadership development through the Thomas C. Hoy Leadership Institute, Crisis Management courses, Health and Wellness classes and sponsors presentations and training offerred by campus and district departments and committees as well as outside speakers.
Additionally, the MLI supports the faculty and staff by providing information through SharePoint
, SAC's internal website by providing a library of resources.
To register for MLI classes, employess will find the classes listed in the new AlamoLearn system. AlamoLearn is found in ACES
under the Employee Tab.

The intent of the MLI is to help faculty and staff learn about and implement best practices and student support strategies for improving student success.
|What's special about the Murguia Learning Institute?
The MLI has been in operation since 2005. The current data shows faculty going through the MLI program have an increase of 5% in productive grade rates and 10% in retention rates in the majority of cases.
