Please take your seat!
SAN ANTONIO, TX (March 27, 2013) – Please take your seat! The San Antonio College Fine Arts Department, in collaboration with the Office of Institutional Advancement, has launched the "Seats of Support" campaign to help raise scholarship funds for students majoring in Fine Arts.
All seats in the McAllister Fine Arts Auditorium will bear a small plaque, placed on the back of the seat, with a short message and/or names. This can be a gift, a memorial, or be used for bragging rights. Sponsorship levels are: $250 front orchestra, $150 rear orchestra, and $100 for balcony.
Jeff Hunt, chair of Fine Arts, said he was inspired by the Majestic Theater. “I thought what a wonderful idea … to leave your mark, your legacy.”
He said the first plaques are ready to be installed, and added that this is a long-term campaign. “I’m going to sell them until they are all sold.”
There are 1,004 seats in the McAllister Auditorium, which was built in 1957. It is named in honor of Walter Williams McAllister Sr. (1889-1984) and his son, Walter Jr., who carried on with much of the work begun by his father. The auditorium was refurbished in July with new seats and carpeting.
Your plaque will be on display for all to see when visiting the McAllister Auditorium. The chair is not an assigned seat, although, you may choose to sit in the seat if it is available.
“We have outstanding programs and such deserving students. We need to expand our scholarship offerings – especially in dance and music,” Hunt said.
In Fall 2012, Dance came under the Fine Arts Department umbrella.
