Summer programs for kids

   San Antonio College has summer programs for kids grades 3 to 12  

 UPDATE (7-9-13) Robotics summer camp has a waiting list.  

 Looking for something for the kids to do this summer? Check out some classes and programs at San Antonio College.

 College for Kids  (CFK)  

Summer learning for children in grades 3-5 and 6-8.  This program is for students who want to get a head start on next years’ course work and to help those who have fallen behind their grade level to catch up or get ahead. Academic and enrichment-based courses include writing, math, art, reading, and computers.

Registration has begun.  New this year – parents will also be able to register by emailing the registration form and pay online through ACES and the Virtual Business Office. Payments can also be made online with e-check or credit card (cash payments will still taken at Bursar’s office).

Orientation will be 6-8 p.m. May 31 (first session), and 6-8 p.m. June 27 (second session) in the SAC Visual Arts Center, Room 120.   

WHEN: Two CFK sessions: June 10-28 and July 8-26, 2013.
Morning classes are from 9 a.m. to noon; afternoon classes are 1 to 4 p.m.

COST: $160/per two-hour class.
Early drop-off (7:30 to 9 a.m.) and late pick-up (to 5:30 p.m.) is available for an additional  $45 per student/per session.

Early Development of General Engineering (EDGE)  

Providing a bridge between high school and college for high school students in  grades 10, 11 and 12.
Registration is under way. 

WHEN: June 10-July 18, 2013
9 a.m.-4 p.m. Mon-Fri.
COST:  $25 application fee, $29 for Accuplacer test.

  Summer Theater Camp for high school students  

Theater camp is for students who will be entering grades 9 through 12. Students will perform in one-act plays on the final days of the camp.  Enrollment is limited to 50 students, 40 actors and 10 technical theater students. For a copy of the brochure, go here.

WHEN: July 7-13, 2013.  Deadline to apply is July 1, 2013.
Schedule: Orientation 2-5 p.m. July 7; classes 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday; performance 2 p.m. Saturday.

COST: $80, with $40 deposit.

  Robotics Summer Camp 

Alamo Colleges is partnering with Rackspace Hosting to offer SpaceTEAMS, a free robotics summer camps for children in grades 3 through 5.   This fun-filled, hands-on experience will give children the opportunity to design, build and program LEGO NXT robots. Students will work in small group of four, guided by an instructor and teaching assistant.   

Registration will open May 6, application at www.alamo.edu/sac/engr    

WHEN: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 29-Aug. 2, 2013.
COST: Free.  The camp is limited to 24 students.

The edition, which hit stands April 25, also pays tribute to The Ranger's 90th anniversary. The election section includes photos and interviews with the 11 candidates for the four open trustee positions, an editorial encouraging voting, and a map showing the four districts up for election. The editorial stresses the importance of voters in shaping the direction of the Alamo Colleges. Early voting starts April 25, and the election is May 7. Read More >
