The San Antonio College Veterans Affairs/Victory Center department will be awarded a $5,000 grant by the Aurora Foundation to fund a new program promoting military and veteran awareness to faculty and staff.

The grant will support a program commonly known as "Green Zone" training.  The Aurora Foundation provides a curriculum framework that colleges and universities are able to personalize for delivery to their employees. The SAC Veterans Affairs/Victory Center will develop and implement the program on campus.

Additionally, the implementation of a faculty mentor program for veteran students is being planned and those faculty members who wish to become mentors for veteran students will be trained on military and veteran sensitivity issues and will be identified to the SAC veteran student population.

The Aurora Foundation's primary focus is the retention and graduation of veteran students. Aurora Foundation awards grants to colleges, universities and community colleges to create programs in support of student veterans. Its secondary focus is on helping veterans enter the workforce. Aurora's Internship Program works with organizations in the public and private sectors to establish paid internships for student veterans.  In both academia and industry, they support our returning veterans, joining them on the journey from "boots to books to business."
