Institutional Advancement and Development
(Gifts & Grants)
The Office of Institutional Advancement and Development obtains external resources to enhance the College's special programs and projects. The office engages in research, planning, and soliciting funds from private and public entities including individuals, corporations, foundations, and government agencies. Alumni Affairs is coordinated by this department.
The practice of raising money for the College dates to the early 1900's when St. Philip's College was a modest industrial school for African American girls. Miss Artemisia Bowden, who served the institution for years first as its primary teacher and finally as the president, led the College's first fundraising efforts by personally soliciting donations from the community.
