SPC's Giselle Vasquez: La Prensa Foundation Inspirational Scholarship Recipient

GISELLE VASQUEZ: SPC ALUMNA AND CURRENT STUDENT IS A 2018 LA PRENSA FOUNDATION INSPIRATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT

A St. Philip's College alumna and current student is the recently announced recipient of a $500 La Prensa Foundation Inspirational Scholarship, courtesy of the La Prensa Foundation, founded by Tino & Amelia "Millie" Duran.

The alumna and current student---Giselle Vasquez---is the first person in her immediate family to receive a college degree, and she serves as vice president of fellowship for the college's chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society.

Vasquez currently holds a 3.65 GPA. She is also the peer mentor for the college's Future United Latino Leaders for Change organization. She led the college's student body, faculty and staff in a winter clothing drive of more than 500 items for residents of the Haven for Hope homeless shelter in San Antonio. While her works were published in the college's Tiger P.A.W.S. student literary art journal on several occasions, Vasquez was awarded the Judges Choice Award for her photography in the journal.

Vasquez was ceremonially recognized for her achievement during the Feb. 27 Alamo Colleges District Board of Trustees meeting.
