Welcome to SEASON 8 for the San Antonio Youth Wind Ensembles (SAYWE)!

We are announcing that Mr. Roderick Leonard is the new Principal Conductor for the SAWYE program.

Mr. Leonard has been the associate conductor for the program and is looking forward to a great season of musicianship for all of our students.

We are also pleased to announce that Jonathan Ward, Commander of the 323rd US Army Band, will be our guest conductor for SAYWE II.

The San Antonio Youth Wind Ensemble (SAYWE) was founded in 2010 as the premier honor wind ensemble for youth in the San Antonio and surrounding areas. Its purposes are to provide a positive musical experience in an artistic environment for advanced in wind and percussion performance, and to supplement the outstanding music education programs in the public and private schools in the region. The SAYWE rehearses and performs grade five and six (collegiate and professional) original wind band literature composed over a wide span of stylistic compositional periods. As an ensemble, SAYWE serves as ambassadors of culture and youth performance for the city of San Antonio and the surrounding area.  The SAYWE season runs from November-June.

The San Antonio Youth Wind Ensembles (SAYWE) at St. Philip's College provides a platform for students to explore, create and strive for musical excellence in a high caliber concert band setting.

Woodwind and Brass: should prepare approximately 3-4 total minutes of music consisting of two contrasting excerpts (one fast/technical and one slow/lyrical). Selected major & chromatic scales will be required.

Percussionists should prepare an excerpt from two out of the three of the following: snare, mallets (2 or 4 mallets), and timpani. Rudiments, scales, and timpani tuning will also be demonstrated.
