Dr. Adelina S. Silva is the Vice Chancellor for Student Success for the Alamo Colleges. She has held several positions in her 32-year career with the ACCD as counselor, founder and director of the San Antonio College Women’s Center, coordinator of federal programs in student services, vice president of student services at Palo Alto College, district vice president of student program development and district director of student and community program development. Her classroom experience includes teaching at McCollum High School in the Harlandale ISD, Palo Alto College, San Antonio College and Texas A&M University, and as an adjunct graduate professor of business, management, and human resource development for Webster University, where she was the recipient of the 2003 Excellence in Teaching Award for adjunct faculty worldwide.
Dr. Silva is the first Hispanic female vice chancellor in the Alamo Community College District, home of San Antonio College, where she earned an associates degree, working as a student assistant and attending on a scholarship. She is a Summa Cum Laude bachelor’s degree graduate of Texas A & M University at Corpus Christi and holds a master’s degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Dr. Silva earned her doctorate in education administration from the University of Texas at Austin, where she was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.
Dr. Silva has presented extensively on leadership and equity topics and issues. Her research and publications include career choices of returning women college students. A member of the first San Antonio official women’s delegation to Japan, Dr. Silva has also presented in international leadership symposiums in Vera Cruz and Oaxaca, Mexico and has been a guest lecturer in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
A fourth generation Texan, Dr. Silva was born in Kenedy in South Texas, where she attended public schools until her family moved to San Antonio, where she attended and graduated from McCollum High School. She has been inducted into the Harlandale ISD Hall of Fame and La Prensa’s San Antonio Latina Women in Action.
