Tobin Lofts Grand Opening Held One Year After Groundbreaking
Friday, October 25, 2013 marked exactly one year from the date of the groundbreaking ceremony for the Tobin Lofts at San Antonio College. It also happened to be the date of the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. On Friday, Dr. Robert Ziegler, president of San Antonio College, San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro, Congressman Lloyd Doggett, Texas Representative Mike Villarreal, Commissioner Tommy Adkisson and over 300 others attended a special ceremony to formally introduce Tobin Lofts to the community. Tobin Lofts at San Antonio College is now officially is home to about 260 students from 13 different colleges/universities. The 552-unit development will provide students a living experience promoting social, educational and environmental advancement. Tobin Lofts at San Antonio College is a private/public partnership with the developer, the NRP Group and is managed by Campus Advantage, a national student housing management firm.
New Campus Activities Board Hosts Campus-wide Festival
Roughly 1,000 students attended SAC’s Octoberfest Festival on Wednesday, October 23rd. The festival, hosted by the new C.A.B. (Campus Activities Board,) planned and executed the four-hour event. The festival’s activities included a DJ, airbrush artists, food booths operated by student organizations, and much more. About 600 students signed-up at the Campus Activities Board booth where they also were recruited to get involved on campus. The event, paid for by the Student Activity Fee, was free to students and was a great retention-building activity.
SAC Hosts Guest Speaker for Employee Development Day
Dr. Sara McAndrew presented “A Review of HB5 and the State Board of Education” to a crowd of faculty/staff during Employee Development Day on Wednesday, October 30. Her presentation included an overview of House Bill 5 and how it will impact education with its plan for change. Dr. McAndrew has been a college and secondary instructor and an administrator in the Northside Independent School District. She was recently recognized and honored when NISD named a new elementary school after her. Faculty/staff alike were encouraged to use part of Employee Development Day to complete necessary trainings in Alamo Learn.
