SAC Teams Up with VIA

Joined by SAC students, President Dr. Robert Vela and VIA’s Chair Hope Andrade and President/CEO Jeff Arndt, SAC’s Gnome Ranger kicked off the new semester riding to SAC aboard one of VIA’s newest WiFi-enabled buses. VIA’s rider experience took SAC students on a field trip around campus to highlight the 20+ VIA stops and multiple routes that lead to SAC. The Rider Experience culminated in SAC’s Mall Area just in time for the Gnome Ranger’s birthday celebration. The event, part of SAC’s Weeks of Welcome (WOW), helped usher in a new semester while providing SAC students an opportunity to learn more about the benefits of riding public transportation to campus.

SAC Center Earns National Accreditation

The Center for English Language Learning at San Antonio College (CELL @ SAC) recently received national accreditation from the Commission for English Language Program Accreditation (CEA). The first-time national accreditation for the program is for a period of five years – through August 2020 – the maximum time that new programs may receive accreditation under CEA. CELL @ SAC began the self-study research and accreditation process in February 2013.

SAC Nets Department of Education Grants Totaling $2 Million

San Antonio College will receive more than $2 million in funding over the next five years to help low-income, first-generation-in-college and disabled students achieve a degree. The pair of U.S. Department of Education Student Support Services (SSS) grants will help SAC provide extra academic, personal and social support for motivated, under-represented students over the next five years. Through the Veterans Achieving Learning through Opportunity and Resilience (VALOR) Program grant, SAC will support 120 veteran students each academic year. Additionally, the Project R.I.S.E. (Ready, Inspired, Successful, Engaged) Program grant will provide funding to assist 120 STEM and Health Science majors annually.
