The Alamo Colleges has been selected from among 1,200 member institutions of the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) to receive the 2013 Charles Kennedy Equity Award for its efforts in expanding opportunities for minorities and women. The Alamo Colleges were also the recipient of the 2013 Western Region Equity Award.
Two of the Alamo Colleges' workforce development programs, the Alamo Acadamies and I-BEST, have been chosen by the Community College Futures Assembly (CCFA) as finalists for the 2014 national Bellwether Award, which recognizes outstanding and innovative programs in community college education. As one of only 10 finalists nationwide in the Workforce Development category, the recognition places the Alamo Colleges in a select group of leading community colleges.
The Alamo Colleges' District Support Operations (DSO) and St. Philip's College have been recognized at the Achievement Level for the Texas Award for Performance Excellence by the Quality Texas Foundation. They are two of only nine organizations in Texas to earn this recognition.

In November, 2014, District 5 Trustee Roberto Zárate was elected to serve as the chair-elect of the 25-member Board of Directors of the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT). When he becomes chairman, after serving one year as chair-elect, Zárate will be the first trustee from the Alamo Colleges and the first Hispanic to serve as chair of the ACCT board. He also will be only the second trustee from Texas to serve as chair.
