What is the Professional Truck Driver (CDL) program?

Programs that prepare students for the Texas Class A Commercial Driver License and Class B Passenger endorsements.

 

CDL Partners

SAGE Corporation - Secure the necessary skills and training to secure employment in the oil industry and major over-the-road carriers by obtaining a Texas CDL in a few short weeks. SAGE Corporation offers a quality 156-clock-hour training program designed to exceed the standard certification for entry-level truck drivers. Class meets Monday-Friday, 8-5 pm. Students will learn about Tractor-Trailer vehicle systems, the Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations, and logs and legal topics pertaining to safe operations. Additional topics include cargo handling, hazardous materials, and the vehicle pre-trip inspection and students will receive a defensive driving course. The program includes classroom and video instruction, remote learning, full-range, and behind-the-wheel instruction.

Specific to the program are the one-to-one driving instruction and the in-house testing for both the CDL permit and driving exams, to avoid those long lines at the DMV. (Cost of DOT physical and permit included)

Excel Driver Services, LLC - Develop the necessary skills and training to secure employment in the transportation industry with local, regional, and long-haul opportunities. These opportunities exist in private industry as well as local and regional government departments. Obtain a CDL in 3 weeks. Alamo Colleges and Excel Driver Services have partnered to offer this quality training program which exceeds the standard certification for entry-level truck drivers. This Accelerated class meets Monday-Friday, 7:00 am-5:00 pm for 3 weeks. Students will learn about Tractor-Trailer vehicle systems, the Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations, hours of service logs, and legal topics pertaining to safe operation. Additional topics include cargo handling, hazardous materials, vehicle pre and post-trip inspection, and defensive driving. All participants are expected to follow safety protocols. (Cost of DOT physical and permit included). We also offer Class B and Passenger endorsement.

Star Career Training - Secure the necessary skills and training to secure employment in the oil industry and major over-the-road carriers by obtaining a Texas CDL in a few short weeks. STAR CAREER TRAINING offers a quality 160-clock-hour training program designed to exceed the standard certification for entry-level truck drivers. Class meets Monday-Friday, 8-5 pm. All participants are expected to follow safety and social distancing protocols. Students will learn about Tractor-Trailer vehicle systems, the Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations, and logs and legal topics pertaining to safe operations. Additional topics include cargo handling, hazardous materials, and the vehicle pre-trip inspection and students will receive a defensive driving course. All participants are expected to follow safety and social distancing protocols. (Cost of DOT physical and permit included)

CDL-B passenger endorsements Star Career Training - The Class B CDL License is required to operate any single vehicle that isn’t hitched to a trailer (commercial trucks that have an attached cab and cargo area with a combined weight greater than 26,000 pounds). Vehicles carrying more than 16 passengers inclusive of the driver are also included in the scope. This 80-hour Class B CDL training will prepare you in 2 short weeks with classroom and hands-on driving enabling you to operate these vehicles: Straight trucks, Large buses (city buses, tourist buses) Segmented buses, Box trucks (including delivery trucks and furniture trucks), Dump trucks.


CDL-B passenger and School Bus endorsements Star Career Training - In addition to the Texas Class B CDL with passenger endorsement, you can receive the school bus endorsement that transports 16 or more students in the state of Texas and requires passenger safety training and maneuvering of large vehicles. Add this school bus endorsement to your Class B CDL with passenger endorsement for a total of 96-hour training in less than 3 short weeks.

Refresher - 40-clock hour training program designed to exceed the standard certification for entry-level truck drivers. Students will learn about Tractor-Trailer vehicle systems, the Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations, and logs and legal topics pertaining to safe operations. Additional topics include cargo handling, hazardous materials, and the vehicle pre-trip inspection and students will receive a defensive driving course. Motor Vehicle Registration and drug screening for the refresher program are required prior to registration. All participants are expected to follow safety and social distancing protocols.

CDL Prerequisite Checklist
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age
    • 18–20-year-olds are allowed to drive intrastate until 21 years of age
  • Valid Texas (C) Drivers’ license
  • Registered students must pass a (DOT) Department of Transportation physical & drug screen
  • 2 Valid proofs of residency
    • (Utility bill, voter registration card, paystub, birth certificate, US passport)
  • Proof of Social Security Card/International students - Passport
  • No outstanding traffic violations
  • Ability to comprehend the English language sufficiently to meet DOT regulations
