SPC President's Lecture Series with Margot Lee Shetterly

ST. PHILIP'S COLLEGE CONFIRMS 2018 PRESIDENT'S LECTURE SERIES EVENT WITH  HIDDEN FIGURES AUTHOR MARGOT LEE SHETTERLY SEPT. 20

The 2018 St. Philip's College President's Lecture Series event of seminars and a free public lecture features a knowledge building session with Hidden Figures author Margot Lee Shetterly Sept. 20 at 11 a.m. in the college’s 600-seat Watson Fine Arts Center at 1801 Martin Luther King Drive. Guests will hear from and ask important questions of the author currently working on numerous projects as she expands her Hidden Figures empire to new heights.

With the event on the way, questions for Shetterly should be submitted online now, organizers shared this week.

Along with a companion project on recovering the names of the Human Computers who are women who worked in STEM jobs for NASA and its National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics predecessor agency starting nearly 90 years ago, the definitive book on the iconic Hidden Figures of NASA is written by the author who will serve as the next President’s Lecture Series speaker in September. Audiences can learn in depth about Hidden Figures for the next few seasons. The aspiration for the property is that it will become a franchise that completists will desire for quite some time. The decision makers at Nat Geo, National Geographic’s cable channel, think so and are reportedly developing a TV series based on Hidden Figures. Shetterly was awarded an honorary doctor of humane letters degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in May. An entrepreneur who once resided in Mexico for 11 years while founding an English-language newspaper there in addition to a career of working in investment banking and media startups, keep an eye out for information on Margot Shetterly’s “don’t miss” program about the Hidden Figures whose strong shoulders all stand upon when it comes to the math that made access to the world of space what it is today, all-in-all a perfect program that coincides with the annual Hispanic Heritage Month observance at the world's only Historically Black College and Universities member institution with Hispanic Serving Institution status.

Shetterly's 60-minute lecture at St. Philip's College begins at 11 a.m. in the 600-seat Watson Fine Arts Center at 1801 Martin Luther King Drive (building marked "1" on the SPC interactive Map). Lecture admission and parking are both free, and lecture seating is available on a first-arrived, first-seated basis. That said, lecture seating reservations requests for large school, government and corporate groups are recommended and are accepted online now. Audience questions for Shetterly are being accepted online now and up to 48 hours prior to the lecture.
