Student Accessibility Services Statement of Commitment
The Student Accessibility Services (SAS) office is committed to providing all students, including our distance education students, with equal access to quality education and provide reasonable accommodations to eligible students. In addition to serving as an advocate for students with disabilities, our office also works closely with faculty and staff members to monitor students’ progress and encourage a positive educational experience.
Accessibility Services Overview
Welcome to St. Philip’s College. If you are a student with a diagnosed disability, you may request services by disclosing to our office and following the process to determine eligibility. Any student with a disability taking face-to-face or online classes through St. Philip’s College is protected under the Americans with Disability and Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 504. This section defines a disability as a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more of the major life activities of an individual, a record of such an impairment, and is regarded as having such an impairment. If you would like to establish or renew services, please follow the guidelines below.
Complete the Request for Accessibility Services for Class Accommodations form. To submit your Guardian request, you are required to attach the following:
- Documentation of disability (required for NEW requests; RETURNING requests can submit a copy of class schedule)
- Copy of your photo ID (i.e. State ID, Driver’s License, or School ID)
Here is a sample list of eligible documentation:
- High School Special Education Records (504, IEP)
- Medical Record with Disability Diagnosis
- Mental Health Diagnosis
- Any Military or Veterans Records Stating Disability
- Any Other Supporting Documentation
- Documents can be scanned and attached by using your Smart Device
Once you have completed your request form and submitted your documents, the Senior Coordinator will contact you to schedule a meet-and-greet intake appointment using your preferred method of communication. Please be sure to check your ACE's email for updates.

Alamo Colleges Form for Interpreting Services
The Interpreting Services Manager coordinates interpreting services and on-boarding services to new students. In order to qualify for services, a student must provide documentation of verification of disability. An interview with the Interpreting Services Manager will begin the process. The link above will provide the form.
Dual Credit Students
For classes taken on high school campuses, accommodations will be made by the high school counselor.
For online, dual-credit classes taught by St. Philip’s College faculty, please follow the “How to Request Accessibility Services for Class Accommodations” process.
Early College Students
For classes taken at St. Philip’s College, students may request services by following the “How to Request Accessibility Services for Class Accommodations” process.
A student must request classroom accommodations each semester they enroll by completing the Request for Accessibility Services accommodations form.
The Letter of Accommodation (LOA) is the official document outlining the student’s approved reasonable accommodations. A few days before each semester, an LOA is generated and processed in the order received. Generally, a letter of accommodation can take up to 14 days, excluding weekends and holidays. This is especially true at the beginning of the Fall and Spring semesters. Please check your Guardian portal in your ACES email for communication. The LOA is emailed to the student and the instructor through your Guardian portal in your ACES email account. *Please note that you will need to re-request services each semester to receive accommodations for your courses.*
Accommodations are not retroactive. Accommodations begin the day the letter is emailed to your St. Philip’s College professor(s). It is the student’s responsibility to initiate their accommodations with each instructor. Conversations should begin as soon as the instructor receives your letter of accommodation, and they are approved to continue throughout the semester unless otherwise indicated.
All students must be able to perform the essential functions of the course as well as the academic requirements for their chosen degree or field of study. Essential functions are the fundamental duties, skills, and tasks a student must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodations.
Under both the Americans with Disabilities Act, as recently amended, and Section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act, reasonable accommodations are provided to qualified students with a disability. An accommodation is not reasonable if it fundamentally alters the way a course or program is delivered, results in an undue burden, or poses a direct threat.
In the college environment, the institution or it's representatives do not contact parents, modify any work, or alter any program or curriculum. Students are expected to advocate for themselves, seek feedback from faculty, give permission to anyone to obtain information about services provided or grades, and meet the expectations of each course.
