AlamoPROMISE was featured prominently on the nationwide news program PBS NewsHour on Wednesday night.
The story explored how the AlamoPROMISE program is tackling education inequality with free and reduced college in San Antonio.
The segment aired as part of the award-winning program’s Rethinking College series.
AlamoPROMISE and San Antonio College student, Jaedan Montero, McCollum High School student, Marissa Cardenas, Dr. Mike Flores, Alamo Colleges District Chancellor and Mayor Ron Nirenberg were all interviewed as part of the segment.
“We are thrilled that the work of the Alamo Colleges District and our AlamoPROMISE team is being recognized on a national level,” said Alamo Colleges District Chancellor, Dr. Mike Flores. “This reflects the dedication of the Alamo Colleges District to serve our community and our collective work to make lives better for so many here in San Antonio.”
Now in its third year, AlamoPROMISE is serving 11 school district partners and 47 high schools as a result of an expanded level of service that reaches more students across the region.
AlamoPROMISE covers tuition and required fees for current academic year graduates from participating high schools seeking an academic certificate or associate’s degree at one of the five Alamo Colleges: Northeast Lakeview College, Northwest Vista College, Palo Alto College, San Antonio College, and St. Philip’s College.
