AlamoPROMISE Receives San Antonio Association of Hispanic Journalists Community Service Award

AlamoPROMISE has received the 2024 Community Service Award from the San Antonio Association of Hispanic Journalists.

AlamoPROMISE offers graduating seniors in Bexar County the chance to pursue higher education without the financial burden. This last-dollar scholarship covers tuition and required fees for up to three years or until students complete an associate degree or academic certificate, whichever comes first.

Since its launch in 2019, 16,044 AlamoPROMISE Scholars have enrolled. Nearly half – 49% – of current scholars are pursuing STEM-related fields in Health & Biosciences and Science and Technology, and 88% are students of color. 

The Alamo Colleges expects to serve 12,645 Promise Scholars in Fall 2024/Spring 2025.

Each year, the SAAHJ honors industry professionals and leaders with four awards: the Henry Guerra Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Journalism, Community Service, Estrella de Esperanza, and Corazón De Oro. 

This year, other SAAHJ honorees included Nora López, executive editor at the San Antonio Express-News, with the Henry Guerra Lifetime Achievement Award, and Carmen Tafolla, state poet laureate and San Antonio’s first poet laureate, with the Corazón de Oro Award.
