The Texas Veterans Commission has awarded all five Alamo Colleges District institutions the prestigious Gold Veteran Education Excellence Recognition Award from the Texas Veterans Commission.

This award recognizes universities and colleges that excel in supporting the academic success of student veterans and military-connected students, with Gold, Silver, and Bronze levels highlighting the quality of service provided.

“We know that the veterans we support rely heavily on the Alamo Colleges as they transition from military service to civilian life,” said Dr. Mike Flores, Alamo Colleges District Chancellor. “Across the district, our veteran students are succeeding, excelling, and preparing to fill critical skills gaps in our community.”

All five Alamo Colleges were among 24 institutions across Texas to receive this honor.

Located in Military City, USA, the Alamo Colleges serve more than 5,700 veteran-connected students and are a leading provider of workforce training. This high concentration of veterans has driven the creation of dedicated one-stop centers to support their post-secondary education.

Nursing-related programs are a top attraction for veteran-connected students across the Alamo Colleges, a critical field where the region can currently fill only one out of every two available jobs.

Each Alamo Colleges Veterans Support Center supports veterans and their dependents by providing wraparound support services, including priority and early registration with fee waivers, comprehensive advisement from enrollment to graduation, and Veteran Affairs work-study opportunities.
