Community leaders, faculty, staff, and students joined Alamo Colleges District Board of Trustee Dr. Clint Kingsbery, Chancellor Dr. Mike Flores, and Northwest Vista College President Dr. Amy Bosley for the events. Speakers included Senator José Menéndez, Student Government Association Secretary Wilhelm Watson, and student veteran Xavier Flores.

Today's "dirt turning" at the Cypress Campus Center is the starting point for the renovations that are a part of the 2017 Capital Improvement Project. The newly renovated campus center is expected to be open in 2025 and will create spaces for student engagement, a one-stop shop for students to receive tutoring, a hub to support dining, a multipurpose space, and an innovation suite, including a student and faculty makerspace.

The Esperanza Veterans Center (EVC) showcases NVC services dedicated to meeting the unique needs of veteran and military-connected students and their families. The facility includes academic advising, career counseling, mental health support, and access to a dog park and amenities for service animals. Made possible through the support and leadership of Senator José Menéndez, the building was envisioned by veteran students and employees, with landscaping provided by a veteran-owned business.

The events ended with a walk-through of the new center, outdoor seating area, and dog park.
