Former San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro will address civic engagement and the Latino experience. To celebrate Veterans Day, there will be a tribute to honor those who served in the military.
About the Speaker:
Public figure and author Julián Castro has distinguished himself as a strong leader for nearly two decades. A former Democratic candidate for President and mayor of San Antonio, Castro served as the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development from 2014 to 2017. Today, Castro is a political analyst for NBC News and MSNBC, and is the CEO of the Latino Community Foundation, the nation’s largest Latino-serving foundation.
About Stacey R. Johnson:
Dr. Stacey R. Johnson has dedicated more than 40 years to higher education to empower students for success. She has served as interim vice president for Academic Success at Northwest Vista College and helped launch NVC’s first baccalaureate degree. Prior to NVC, she was a president at Valencia College in Florida. She has deep roots in San Antonio and worked at Palo Alto College in many leadership roles. A former Olympian in fencing, she founded “Dreams for Youth” of the San Antonio Sports Foundation and was inducted into the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame and the Institute for International Sport.

Northwest Vista College (NVC), part of the Alamo Colleges District, is federally designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), an institution of higher learning with a full-time equivalent undergraduate student enrollment that is at least 25% Hispanic. The college opened in 1995 with 12 students and has grown to one of the largest institutions of higher education in San Antonio and the region with current enrollment exceeding 19,000 students.
