Horizons Teachers Program
About the programThe Early Childhood and Family Studies program provides the community with a comprehensive early childhood program responsive to cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic diversity, rich in innovative ideas, and authentic learning and hands-on experiences. Students enrolled in the program will explore childhood development from birth to age eight in all development areas, including physical, socio-emotional, language, and cognitive. This program prepares students who complete it for various job opportunities in this exciting and ever-expanding field, from education to community service. In addition, the Horizons Teacher Program is fully-online, allowing students the flexibility to balance their coursework with their professional and family obligations. |

Prior Learning Credit
As a Bright Horizons Family Solutions employee, you have career-relevant skills, knowledge, and experience that could count toward your credit hours. Prior Learning Credit (PLC) is the career-relevant learning you have acquired through your professional background and other experiences outside of a traditional classroom.
Earning PLC can reduce the number of courses you’ll need to take. You may receive up to 18 credit hours in place of the following classes for your CDA credential:
- CDEC 1319 Child Guidance
- TECA 1311 Educating Young Children
- CDEC 1313 Curriculum Resources
- CDEC 2304 Child Abuse & Neglect
- CDEC 1321 The Infant and Toddler
- CDEC 1358/CDEC 2307 Creative Arts for Early Childhood/Math and Science for Early Childhood

Program AdmissionFor a smooth transition to St. Philip’s College, follow the Horizons Teacher Program Student Checklist. This step-by-step guide provides an overview of your enrollment process. As per the checklist, students should first submit their ApplyTexas application. Afterward, students interested in admission into the Early Childhood and Family Studies Program at St. Philip's College must submit a program application.
