What is the healthcare administration program?

The Healthcare Administration (HCA) Program provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to acquire entry-level employment as a healthcare manager. By participating in carefully designed classroom and small group experiences, students acquire competence in the leadership and managerial strategies needed to plan, direct, and coordinate medical and health services. The responsibilities of a healthcare administrator may include:

  • Improving the quality and efficiency of healthcare services.
  • Managing the finances of a healthcare facility.
  • Preparing and monitoring budgets.
  • Serving as a human resources manager.
  • Ensuring that the facility complies with all relevant laws and regulations.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, healthcare administration is one of the fastest-growing career fields in the nation, with employment projected to grow 28% from 2022 to 2032.

Program Requirements

Admission to the program requires:

  • College-level reading, writing, and math
  • Completed HITT 1305 Medical Terminology I with a grade of C or higher
  • Completed BIOL 2404 Human Anatomy and Physiology with a grade of C or higher (or BIOL 2401 and BIOL 2402 with a grade of “C” or higher in each course)
  • Completed ITSC 1309 Integrated Software Applications with a grade of C or higher
  • An overall college GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
Good Academic Standing

Students admitted to the Healthcare Administration program must maintain a 2.0 GPA to remain in good standing. A student who earns a single non-productive grade of “D” or “F” in any course will be placed on probation. A student who earns two non-productive grades will be dismissed from the program for one year. 

To graduate from the HCA Program with a degree or a certificate, students must achieve a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 and earn a grade of “C” or better in all technical courses directly related to Healthcare Administration.

 

 

Healthcare Administration Program Highlights

  • The Healthcare Administration Program prepares graduates to become effective in-patient and out-patient healthcare facilities managers. Students learn the problem-solving skills, leadership strategies, and communication techniques vital for successful healthcare management.
  • The program capstone is a Problem-Based Learning research project synthesizes knowledge gained throughout the HCA Program.
  • The HCA curriculum is designed to fit the schedules of working adults. Program courses are 8-week online classes with scheduled evening Zoom meetings (synchronous online instruction).
